I just needed to say that I am bored out of my mind with Jack.  Boring, useless, pompous, irritating.  Adds nothing to the show except eye candy and there's plenty of that already.  If I had a million dollars, I'd pay it to the producers to kill him off next week.  Not going to happen....

I agree, Jack is pompous and irritating, but we saw in the looking glass that he has been making a plan, thats why he has been distant, and he is actually starting to take on his leadership role.

I still think Juliet is working with the others, what did ben say... Gain their trust. Well she seems to have done that, but i believe she will lead the others to the radio transmitter.

Not all Drs. turn out to be like Jack, and I am sure that he wasn't just waiting around and thinking about taking drugs.

I started to watch Lost from the very beginning, and i'm up to Episode 7. Now i like Jack again. Cos i realised something, when we get to season 3 and we all think his rubbish and pompous, irritating, boring etc. If you watch from the beginning and see the pressure he is under especially after just losing his Dad, then his Dad appearing on the island but not being in the coffin. Y'know, it's easy to see why he might be relaxing near the end of season 3, but he is also making plans to escape the island and to stop the others from invading, as he has a common goal as Juliet. Survival and to get home....! Thats all most of the survivors want, they just want to get home, and they want and need a leader. Jack has taken that role on at the end of season 3, where as at the beginning of season 1, he did what he could and never slept, and to have everyone asking him what to do, it was just too much for him. His Dad said they 'he hasn't got what it takes'. Well Jack believed that for long periods, until now.... Now he believes he has what it takes, he was willing to sacrifice some survivors for the safety and rescue of the majority. He didn't want to have to make that decision, but leaders have to make difficult decisions. Luckily they were not dead, it was a bluff.

Go Jack, Go Jack go. I now have a better understanding of you as a character.

Watch from season 1 again, and you will notice things that people say in conversation that link to some theories and what not. Like Claire talks to Kate and says that Kate must be a gemini, and also says that people think astrology is rubbish but it is real and has meaning. Or something along those lines anyway. In one of my theories http://www.officiallost.com/?topic=954.0 there is a document about Apollo being linked with the island, very good info and it's mainly about astrology. See the links between what the Losties are saying and what theories are out there.

I like him, but i also don't like him.

Jack is a control freak and he thinks everyone should answer to him.  he thinks everyone should do things how he wants them to, and thats why i like when Sawyer sometimes gives him a load of crap.

Jack is such an idiot. He's always going off at Locke about something or another. Season 2 was a real joke. Locke couldn't even say "I'm going to get a coke from the fridge" without Jack screaming at him saying "Yeah you do that John! But you do it alone" (With insane shaking of his head)

Watch this tribute to Jack if you agree with me: http://youtube.com/watch?v=H3ZecrfGn48&feature=user
Its 1 minute 30 seconds and so worth it

#SPOILERS#

Jack was wrong about EVERYTHING. In season 1 he was wrong about the others (They weren't evil savages). In season 2 he was wrong about the hatch (It was actually saving the world). In season 3 he was stupid enough to call the Freighter and it's crew (And trust them) even after Locke, Ben AND Charlie's dying message told him. As if that wasn't enough, the crew's super secretive attitude was a dead give-away. He was also wrong about leaving the island (And we know he becomes a druggie after he leaves. AND he got Jin killed... what an idiot...
And he's so rude to the cool characters. In season 1 all he did was punch Sawyer instead of asking nicely and from season 2 onwards all he ever did was shout at Locke...

i have to agree with sylar.  he didnt look to be put in the "leader" position.  he just was.  i can imagine that that was a little stressful, what with crazy people trying to steal your friends in the middle of the night.

and so then locke trys to convince hm to stay on the island?!  i think i would go a little burzerk too.  im not saying hes not annoyng, but i do respect him cause i dont think alot of people couldve havestood all of that crap for so long

I have to say that Jack has bugged me for such a long time now that if anything was to force me to quit watching the show then he would be that reason. I guess that in the aftermath of a plane crash then  who better to have on scene but a Dr. cos let's face it, there will be injuries. And he acquitted himself admirably and he undoubtedly saved lives. That put him in the spotlight from the start and he found the attention and expectation too much. However as the series has developed he seems to have declared himself almost an autocrat in terms of who does what, who goes where and when, and who gets to go on a trip, who gets to collect explosives   the list is endless. I firmly believe that if a group of survivors were faced with a character like Jack, there would be very clear resentment to his rules and code of conduct. In fact I believe it would lead to factions, infighting, violence and injury. He has no credibility at all. He has NO leadership qualities that I can identify. There are many others who are head and shoulders above him in terms of what it takes to hold people together in  a crisis. Apart from his initial contribution  , sorting out Sawyer's vision, handing out medication, and ignoring any medical advice  post  appendectomy, and generally sweating a lot,  what has this person done for the collective good?   I'm not sure if it's the character Matthew Fox is playing that bugs me  or if it's the fact that he's a bum actor. I know this is controversial but I have been thinking this for some time now.

i semi-agree with you.  i agree that jack hasnt handled the leadership role perfectly, i hold some respect for him.  to me that just seems like such a load.  i mean a bunch of people put you in this leader position that you dont want.  then they dont listen and your okay.  then they come to you again!  so eventually you just have to decide what your going to do.   keep going back and forth or embrace the role

We all seem to have a love-hate relationship with Jack (or for some of us, it seems, a hate-hate relationship!). I think the writers had to make it so that Jack had some flaws like his difficult relationship with his father for example to make his  character more interesting. I mean, it would be boring if he were Rambo and could be the perfect leader.

if a group of survivors were faced with a character like Jack, there would be very clear resentment to his rules and code of conduct.

I agree. If I were on that island I would be think to myself 'who the hell is this guy telling me what to do?'. But, for all that Jack doesn't have a lot of qualities that make him a natural leader, he is the doctor which is probably the most valuable thing they have on the island. I mean, maybe the islanders are thinking that they had better be nice to him in case they need his help someday. If I were in that position, I would be thinking, its in my best intentions to be nice to this guy.

Apart from his initial contribution  , sorting out Sawyer's vision, handing out medication, and ignoring any medical advice  post  appendectomy, and generally sweating a lot,  what has this person done for the collective good?

lol!  Hillarious He does sweat a lot, but then, don't they all!?

Jack isn't my favourite character by any means but I don't hate him. I don't think its Matthew Fox that bothers me because I enjoy watching his interviews etc but I think its the 'holier than thou' attitude of Jack that puts me off. I feel the same way about Sayid and Kate; I really like the actors that play them, but I just can't take to the characters.
