New negative reputation rule

It seems as though one of our newer members has decided to abuse the reputation system by handing out unwarranted negative reps.  Sylar asked me why he had a negative rep, and I responded and removed his negative reputation.  So the person responsible(I won't mention any names) decided to give a negative rep to both Sylar and Me.  Last night I removed the negative reputation option.  But I've been thinking, this simply isn't fair to the rest of the members of the forum, to take away a certain function because one person thinks they are funny.  So, instead, I've decided to keep the negative rep system. If you are guilty of rep system sabotage, you will be put on the stand in front of a jury of your peers.  If you accumulate a reputation score of -10, you will be permanently banned from using this forum.  It will be the decision of all of the members of this forum.  So if you don't want that person to be banned, then give them a +rep to bring their score up by 1 point.

Since this is a new rule, the person that has been abusing the system will be given one more chance.

I have a question about the whole negative reputation in general.  What is it for?  I mean what would someone have to do to deserve a negative rep?

 There are not to many things you can do, being really rude, misusing the neg rep system, being vulgar or racist just stuff like that.

I have only given out 1 negative rep, and that was to the person that misused the rep system and continued to give out negatives to everyone.  It's really tough to get negative reps here.  Like Crystal said, you would have to be really rude to other members or misuse the rep system.

Are Neg reps giving out for things like Spam, Outside Advertisement, Showing Undiserable Material, etc?

Well, if a member is posting their first post and they are spamming, I'll usually delete that member.  But, if it's a long standing member, then I'd just delete the post if it were bad enough or SPAM.

As a reminder, you are not supposed to use the neg rep points unless it is absolutely necessary. I have noticed that some people are still getting neg reps, and I have not seen any reasons for that. If you do give a neg rep by accident please let me or JJ know so we can get it fixed. Thank you!!
