in social studies, the teacher mentioned John Locke, the philosopher.  But, of course the first thing i thought of was my favorite character.

So, i thought, "there must be some reason that they named him John Locke.  So i decided to do some research.

These are some interesting facts i found from wikipedia.

His writings influenced Voltaire and Rousseau (daniel)
one of his notable ideas was the "state of nature".  Another was the "rights of life"
He believed in learning my experimenting with everything in life.
he met Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury, who had come to Oxford seeking treatment for a liver infection. (if im not mistaken, wasnt cooper the name of john's "pretend" father?? who stole his liver?)

one of the thinks i found that contridicts the john in the show is that the philosopher believed in reason.  John believes in faith.

Well, i can see why the writers chose this name for john.   It suits him well.

yeah that is interesting, his name was Anthony Cooper. I believe that it was a kidney though, not liver.

Yeah I didn't knew there was a real Anthony Cooper once, and he was somehow "related" to the real John Locke. ty

so Anthony cooper (the old one) was good.  but the new Anthony cooper is bad.  Hmmmmm.  maybe there are other good/bad connections.  I'm going to look at Rousseau in a little bit.
