I got something I am wondering about and also a question with it...
First the question... The purge was done by using the gasstation where Juliet fought Charlotte and Danial in, no?
Now what I wonder... If the purge was done this way then howcome none of the animals are dead? or did Ben just use his secret time machine and bring them through there like Naoh's arc and let them mate on the island so everybody had fresh boar again in couple of years, same with birds and anything else fromm animals on the island?

if i remember correctly they just used a few bombs that were filled with the gas from the station

I read this in one of the links u posted: It was revealed in Season 4 that a DHARMA station called The Tempest, which was an electrical and chemical weapons development facility, was what the Hostiles used in the Purge to gas the Initiative.
and by the way if the purge was 12 years ago. (The Purge occurred on December 19th, 1992 at 4 pm, the date of Ben's birthday = 12 years before planecrash Oceanic September 22th, 2004)
...then danielle was already on the island for 4 years.. and Alex should have been in Ben's care already.. this is strange

I'm sure the gas only reached a certain radius on the island. According to the maps, the barracks don't cover too much land, and I'm sure that Dharma wasn't that spread out at the time either. Danielle was mostlikely hidden away off in the middle of nowhere at the time, as her appearance had implied.

im think the tempest was a last resort type thing....like if the hostiles were iminently going to take over then dharma would have the upper hand and win anyways even if it meant sacrificing all life on the island...
but i think that when the hostiles gassed the dharma people..maybe they went to the tempest and stole the cannisters of purge gas...so only the dharma people would die..
i dont know if that makes sense or not but there it is
