Each to their own I guess. Joy Division are awesome but The Smiths are more from my generation.

They're not THAT far apart, Joy Division only preceded The Smiths by a year or so....

Really? I guess maybe The Smiths were more mainstream here at the time. I didn't really know who Joy Division were when I was young.

Yeah, they're only a few years removed.
Pretty much The Smiths, Joy Division/New Order, and Happy Mondays were the Big 3 of that era, and even then HM's were a few years apart from the rest. Are you a Manc?

No I'm not but there are so many great Manchester bands - I think their influence on the British music scene will never die.
