That seems to be a popular opinion. Personally, I really like the second reality so far. I'm very interested to see what would have happened to our characters had the Island never been a factor.

I've actually begun to formulate a theory that these "flash sideways" are in fact flash backs, and we'll see how our survivors actually end up on the Island in a different manner, with the conclusion of the other story of them on the Island, actually being the conclusion of both stories. That which we've been following for five seasons, and the one that just started this season.

You have a point there. I also agree that there has to be some conclusion or at least connection between the two realities, otherwise this would just be pointless. Also, 3 years plus have passed since the original plane was supposed to land in LAX, so the flashes are really sideways-flashbacks.

I actually thought about that same thing. What if these flash-sidways were actually flashbacks? Seems plausible
But still.....why is the island underwater? And if these are indeed flashbacks, how does the island eventually surface? And did anybody else notice that there was a dharma logo on the shark?

What if the two alternate realities build up and build up and build up the entire season and both lead towards the same place with the same circumstances in the final episode? I like that idea! That would make for a good last scene; during the last fifteen minutes they'll be constantly going back and forth between the two realities, and then the final moment will be both at the same time. I rated the episode an 8. It was good, but not as ground breaking as I thought it was going to be. The one thing I kept thinking while I was watching it was its similarities to the episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes" in Season 3, right after Desmond turns the failsafe key and wakes up at home with the split paint? Obviously Desmond has something to do with the two universes either coming together or only one becoming "real".... ...but did you notice the blood on Jack's neck while he was looking into the mirror on the airplane? I think it might actually be paint, not blood. Rewatching that episode in Season 3, Penny found a blotch of red paint on Desmond's neck in the same exact spot as Jack's and wiped it off for him. I'm not sure exactly what that means, or why Jack would have paint on his neck when there was none around... but it's still something to think about.

I had realised the fact that the alternate reality, also existed in the past of our original one. I have also seen theories that they are in fact flash-forwards from when our original time line ends, and the "game" being played by Smokey and Jacob ends and a sort of reset occurs, causing this alternate time line to burst into existence... That itself wouldn't shock me, but from what I've heard from others the flash-sideways will be ending about the half-way mark (i personally hope this isn't true) of the season and that would kill that idea flat. But still.....why is the island underwater? And if these are indeed flashbacks, how does the island eventually surface? And did anybody else notice that there was a dharma logo on the shark?
The Dharma logo on the shark tells me that the Island didn't sink until Dharma were on the Island, which makes me think my original theory that the bomb going off caused the two realities to exist in the first place is correct. But obviously, I don't know that for certain. I rated the episode an 8. It was good, but not as ground breaking as I thought it was going to be. I hadn't noticed that paint thing. I'm currently re-watching all the earlier Season's while I watch this one to get my full Lost fix, so I'll have to watch out for that.

I never noticed the shark thing, I have no idea how long sharks live but I wouldn't have thought they live for 30 years plus...? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also lets assume that it is too far fetched for Dharma's sharks to start being born with the Dharma logo branding, because their shark parents had it, so this means that Dharma is on the go around the year 2004 even with the sunken island....
