I was just reading up about Jack Sheppard on wikipedia from a post created by Iwentwithlocke.  So I got to thinking, maybe there is some historical significance in more of the characters, so I started with Sawyer.  I looked up James Ford on Wikipedia, and I found a few.  Most notably, James Ford - US Congress and Mississippi River pirate.  The thing I found interesting about that is that the Mississippi and Missouri River was the stomping ground for Tom Sawyer.
