I was just watching Episode 2 again...During the scene with Walt and John, where they are playing Backgammon, John was talking about the history of the game...He said

Quote from: John Locke
Two players, two sides....One is light...One is dark.

It just struck me as interesting.  It was almost as if he were talking about something that we have to yet find out....Especially considering it is coming from John, he seems to be aware of what path he is taking, and he doesn't seem as though he would be the type to take the dark path....

What if he is not the one taking the dark path? What if like you said in the other thread "Jack and Kate become the traitors" and Locke is the one that is doing good, doing what he is supposed to?

This interested me too, it's almost as if he knows what is about to happen in the next two seasons, although who is light and dark out of the Others and the survivors is anyone's guess! If this is indeed foreshadowing then it supports the theory that the writers have a basic idea of where they are going with the "big idea".

I think that who is light and who is dark isn't dependent on the group they are with...I think that there are good amongst the Others, while there are bad amongst the Losties...

Very good point. It also highlights the subconcious ways in which we associate qualities to colours, light connotes good and pure whereas dark is seen as bad and corrupt. Interesting...

I think that stems from watching Star Wars.....

Quote from: Darth Vader
Join the Dark Side, Luke.  I am your father

But it is interesting, because that isn't the only place you see references like that.  In old westerns, the bad guys always wore the black hats, the good guys were white hats.  In the internet business, there are different types of search engine optimization....Black Hat SEO, and ethical or White Hat SEO.

I thought this was interesting because Locke appears in Claire's dream with one black eye and one white eye. I thought maybe the black and white theme doesn't have to reflect the battle between the good and bad people on the island, but instead the battle of good and bad within the characters themselves. So, Locke has good traits and bad traits which are constantly fighting for supremacy (for instance he is a morally good person but would put others in jeopardy to save the island)

**Creepy Locke spam alert!**
