anyone check out the "lost connections" on the season 2 dvd set? it's basically a grid type thing that links all the characters together...however there is one square that is just a shadowy figure waving...and it only connects to jack, christian sheppard, and claire. wonder who it could be...i mean we obviously know those three are related now...so who do you think this shadowy figure is...

I have seen a similar grid at abc.go.com...but I don't have any of the DVD sets...yet...
That's interesting...Do you suppose it's Jacob? He's the only shadowy character that I know of on the show.......
Was Jacob ever mentioned before season 3?

i dont think he was ever mentioned by name until that line in season 3 u quoted...however other episodes in season 2 hint at him...like when ben is locked up in the hatch he says "If I tell you about them, you don't know what HE'LL do!" and when threatened by Sayid he says "HE'LL kill me!" to which Sayid responds, "I'll kill you!".
Also in the episode "Two for the Road", Ben says that "HE" is "a great man, a brilliant man, but not a forgiving man, and would kill him for failing his mission."
