Thought this was interesting, just an easter egg really.

In episode 8- 'collision'- Locke is doing a crossword puzzle just before he meets Eko, and the clue he is looking at is 'Enkidu's friend'. The answer to this is Gilgamesh.

Okay this is the basic story behind it:

The Epic of Gilgamesh is supposedly the oldest story ever recorded. Gilgamesh is a king who is part God, part human. The God's send him Enkidu, a wild uncivilized man as a distraction, but they end up being friends and kill lots of monsters together. This angers the Gods and they kill Enkidu. Gilgamesh is devastated and becomes aware of his own mortality. He sets out to find the only humans who survived the great flood who are granted immortality by the gods. He finds them but fails the task for immortality, but comes to realize he can make it on his own.
