There is a mistake in that scene where Charlie's room fills with water to the top.

Physically the water should fill the room up to the top of the window only. The distance from the window to the ceiling should remain with some air, letting him catch a deep breath and go out swimming through the window to the surface.

Give us Charlie back!   Little Devil

I did not care for him dying either.  But I guess Charlie did not want to take the chance of Claire not been rescued if he did not die, like in the vision.

But I found a nice little interview about why he was killed off. http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=9c9aafc1-e118-4d0c-9686-6b982fbd4e87

Here's my question:
wouldn't the air have gone out charlie's window and up through the bay?
That would have been the highest point for the ar to escape. It just poured in and didn't 'glug' out like a 2 liter bottle.

I thought the very same thing, but it's possible that there was an air vent in the ceiling  or somewhere else up high that allowed the air to escape.  If not, if the room were air tight, then it should have stopped flooding at the level of the top of the port hole.

I checked that link out, and it is a very interesting interview. Firstly because we found out why they killed Charlie off, and I like their thinking behind this, and secondly, we can all stop guessing as they have not casted anybody for the role of Jacob. So surely it can not be someone we know, otherwise Jacob would have been casted, or is that a trick? Chrck this text from the interview, and see if u think it is just a little bit cryptic:

The role of Jacob has been cast.

False.

False? Okay, interesting. People were having all sorts of interpretations of what he looked like.
You do see a guy, but...I'm still sticking to my false.

Hmmmmm.... Sounds fishy.

Yeah, I read that part too....Interesting thing about that is that they are saying that we have seen somebody, but that somebody isn't necessarily Jacob....(Actually, they may be saying that the somebody we saw WAS NOT Jacob...)

In this case, if the room was not completely sealed, if the air could flow through a vent to the rest of the submarine station, the water should also have stopped at window level.

If the air could flow out of the station, to the surface, then the whole station would have flooded quite before window was broken.

i think it doesnt matter if he couldve survived or not, quite frankly..

there was no way to seal the door from the outside and probably sealed it so desmond wouldnt try to save him.  I also think charlie died with the thought that he HAD to die to save clair and aaron

he knew that if he didn't die, desmond's flash wouldn't have come true which was the entire point of him risking his life in the first place.

But i can't see why him not dying would change their fate! How could him not dying impact the people on the freighter in such a way that they wouldn't recieve the radio transmission. It is not pheasable in my opinion. Thats like saying standing on a fly in prehistoric times would change the world as we know it. I don't believe that for a second.

I think he got that from Desmond though, cause Desmond was so sure that if things didn't go as he saw them that they would change. Just like he was told by mrs. Hawkings, he had to go push the buttons other wise things would change , it was his destiny to go to the island and push the button, so they thought that it was Charlies destiny to die to save everyone. Desmond thought that Penny was supposed to be on the island and he thinks the reason it ended up being Naomi was because he saved Charlie, so Charlie had to die. I don't personally think that things would change, but thats what they believe.

So Patchy is standing on the beach shooting and Desmond.. Desmond dives down to the looking glass.  Shortly after Patchy makes it down to the looking glass.

My question is, where did Patchy suddenly find an air tank, set of fins, regulator, wet suit, mask, etc???  I'm almost positive that when they showed him on the beach all he had was a rifle and a small backpack.
