1. When young Ben first arrives on the island he is itroduced to his dads friend, Horace. His dad, Roger appologizes for Ben telling his friend that Ben dosnt speak much. Horace replies "thats ok he will speak when he has something to say". This is the same thing Boone tells locke in Locke's vision.

2. When young Ben is in the classroom they are dicussing volcanoes. A girl asks if its like the one that erupted on the island and the teacher confirms that it is.

3. Has anyone screen shot the classroom I would be curious to know what lesson was written on the blackboard behind the teacher as well as what subjects were decorated throughout the room.

4. When Ben and Roger first arrive to the island they are standing in front of a monitor listening to some kind of orientation film. The audio fades into the background but if you listen to it you can here Dr Marvin talking about the sonic fence. What he says is to the effect that everything on the outside of the fence works under different properties and that is what they are there to study.

5. Horace was supposedly present when Ben was born.

6. I thought it odd that noone helped defend mihkal when John was beating the stuffing out of him and Ben was yelling for someone to stop them.

7. Last but not least......... The moment of the purge. Ben is sitting in the van with his father looking down the hill. Ben pulls the pin on the poison gas bomb and kills his father. John was told he could not follow the others to the new camp site unless he killed his father.

I dont know if any of these things hold any significance to the themes of the show but I thought I would throw them out there for some of you to chew on.

concerning point 5:

Horace was the guy that was driving the car when ben's dad ran out of the woods with his mom in his arms. The chic in the car with Horace was Olivia, she was the teacher in the classroom and he was a mathematician.

concerning point 4:

i found the transcript for the video...

Welcome to the Island. For your own comfort and safety, we ask that you stay within the confines of your new living quarters. Our barracks are surrounded by a high frequency sonar fence to protect us from the island’s abundant and diverse wildlife. You are now a member of the DHARMA initiative.[inaudible]
Every morning, you will be given a new code that will allow you to cross outside the fences if you so desire. There are properties on this island that exist nowhere else on earth. Our mission is to study these properties for the betterment of mankind and advancement of world peace. Most of you will be working on the mainland. Should you be assigned to zoological study, our ferry will carry you to and from the site three times a day. Here at the barracks enjoy all the comforts and amenities of a modern suburban lifestyle. [inaudible]...ing your children... [inaudible] ...we [operate/offer a]... DHARMA initiative.

And supposedly in the german version the ending is different...

...Our mission is to study these properties for the betterment of mankind and advancement of world peace. The worldwide peace, the end of all hostilities and wars was linked to the hope of the arrival of a redeemer for centuries. The messiah - who destroys all hostiles to unite all peaceful people in harmony. But now, after 2000 years of waiting, a group of scientists has [inaudible] ...leadership of... [inaudible] ...DeGroot... [inaudible]

I read one timeline that predates back to the 1800's for the island and then the ruins are predated before that with an unknown date

Maybe he met  on the main island, like some of them would work on the alcatraz island instead of the "mainland". I don't know though, I did notice it though.

i see a couple volcanoes. One picture and one model.  Its hard to tell, but it looks like a polar bear in one of those posters on either side of the dharma sign.  There is also a periodic table of elements. idk if there is anything odd about that table though.

With the recent flashback where Richard visited child John Locke, I've begun looking back at old episodes to try to figure out more about this guy.

I noticed in "Man Behind the Curtain" that Ben seemed VERY VERY defensive when John said he would ask Richard to take him to see Jacob.  Ben said very quickly in a semi-panicked tone, "Why would you ask Richard?  Richard doesn't talk to Jacob!  Richard can't see Jacob!"

I might have that quote a little bit off, but I am sure that it seemed like Ben was lying.  I feel pretty sure that Richard can and does communicate with Jacob.
