I like your theories - it reminds me of that movie final destination.  And yeah ,that would explain why they can't have children. Probably the most rational theory i've read for a while.

(regarding my loooong post on page 10):

it a lot like final destination. that's why i called it a ripoff.

and i don't think they are dead. i think their live on a borrowed time.
they can live on the island, but since they were supposed to die they cant have children.

since Locke constantly talks about destiny than i think it's like life has a plan - a certain way that life should go and that course of life means that those survivors are dead somehow.
it's like the island (or is it god\Jacob) spares their lives - this plan of destiny is changed. if the survivors add lives to the world (having babies) than that really throws the plan of destiny out the window and that can't happen.
however as long as the survivors are ON the island, the plan of destiny can continue. the survivors do not affect the life of the normal world.

something like that.

since I'm not Christian i can only barely try and remember the new testimony but i think it's talking about how god and the devil share the souls that get to heaven and hell or something -
if the soul made a sin or is a part of a sin then it goes to hell. if it didn't sin - it goes to heaven.
the primal sin (if i translate it right to English) is sex and since everyone is born out of sex and make sex to give birth to babies than everyone is a part of the primal sin so everyone goes to hell eventually.
that was the agreement between the devil and god. the devil kinda cheated god on that one.
however god throw the devil off the loop by making maria give birth to Jesus without her having sex, thus making Jesus the only human that didn't belong to heaven.
i think that's why Christianity believes Jesus came back.
i could be wrong but ANYWAYS maybe that also has to do with the birth issue-
babies are a product of the primal sin and on the island, which as far as we know might be a sanctuary place made by god, is forbidden.

however there are so many other sins that ppl do on the island which doesn't really support my mumb-jumbo.

and if u accept my theory (from page 10. not this one) than it makes u think-
if this place is to keep dead ppl alive - what do Ben and dharma are trying to achieve?
are the dharma corp. and Ben trying to find a way to cheat death?
that doesn't makes sense with my theory cuz Jacob and Ben used to "work" together but Ben is trying to create life on the island (he and Richard brought Juliet for that) and that is "cheating" Jacob.

maybe that is why Jacob has forsaken Ben and turned to Locke...?

Huh

a currection for the post above:
regarding jesus - since he was not a part of the original sin than when he dies he doesnt belong to HELL (not heaven as i wrote before).

Left where? the island? then kate says sumthing about someone not wanting them too meet, could this be ben?

Regarding the person in the coffin.

The first question is "why would Jack expect Kate to go to the funeral?".
If indeed this person was hated by all. It doesn't make sense that Jack would expect her to go.

Could this person be Kate's mother?
It would explain why Jack expected her to go.
It would also explain Kate's comment "why would I"
Kate's mother had betrayed her, turned her in to the police.
If Kate is still angry with her mother, she would not acknowledge her mother as someone worthy of her attendance in the funeral.

Sawyer is another possible answer.
Jack would certainly expect Kate to go to the funeral of Sawyer.
It is not clear to me how Kate felt for Sawyer.
It is kinda love hate relationship. She loves him(or pity, lust), but also despises him.
It would not suprise me if Kate and Sawyer drift part when they are back to the real world.
But then who would that be waiting for Kate to come home?
So Sawyer doesn't fit all the parts.

I think it is most likely that Jack was hallucinating.
Jack has a deep fear for losing the woman he loves.
and this fear may manifest in his hallucination.
He is facing the possibility of returning home(having contacted the outside world).
He must be feeling anxiety about how his relationship with Kate would end up.
I don't think his comment to the other doctor "find him upstair" can be interpreted any other way than "his father is still alive".
and that can only happen in his dreams.

I don't care how mad I was mad at my mom or how much she betrayed me, I would still go to her funeral.

I can't beleive people still think Jacks dad is alive...... , I think everyone in the entire lost world has established that the finale was a flash-forward.

Well this is what I gathered from the finale:

The hostiles respected Ben because he was able to talk to Jacob. After all the lies people will doubt Ben and look elsewhere. John Locke will become the new leader for the hostiles because of his ability to communicate with Jacob.

I bet Michael and Walt got lost at sea and spotted a huge ship. They flagged it down and met Naomi.  Michael told the crew about the island and Naomi was sent out to check it out and report back of the exact location. I guess Walt used his telekinetic to warn Lock about the people on the ship and not have Naomi contact her crew.

That's a Freudian slip if I've ever heard one...  Hillarious

I think Jim maybe right, esspecualy if Micheal comes back next season as a regular. But they said walts growing up to fast (in terms of Island time) and they may be in a bit of trouble regarding that.

why was what i said a freudian slip?.... it was no slip. i learned about the new testimony in college in medieval art a couple of years a go so i can barely remember the class.

and, although it a pain in the arse, if new comers want to comment on the last episode they should do as i did and read the former posts on this thread. it's 11 pages, i know. it can take some time, but no point in writing that u think jack's flashback was a flash-forward cuz everybody had already commented on that and it's really obvious.

what since when does Walt have special abilities like telekinesis or whatever?

and davidtw, i think your assumption about the person in the coffin are way to mundane. too regular and banale. this is lost. this show is WAY beyond these kind of plot twists that belong in a drama show. lost is a mystery show. i really believe the identity of the coffin person is something more.... fictitious.

Not to derail this thread too viciously, but it's New Testament, not testimony.  The implication was that the NT is made up of so many varying stories that it's more faulty testimony than... lol, nevermind.  It's overly convoluted.  Just pass it off as a bad joke and move on. ^_^

Topeira....regarding your idea about borrowed time.  We don't know that the Losties can't have children.  We only know that the Others can't.  We also don't know that the Others narrowly escaped death, we only know that about the Losties.  So in reality, that theory won't work until we have some more solid information to base it on.

It's my opinion that the Losties can have children.  Also, I don't think that the Others are there because of some narrow death escape, I think that mostly they are there by choice.
