Well, the color of blood is derived from the high content of hemoglobin, which itself is rich in iron.....Maybe the hemoglobin, in the absence of oxygen, actually is blue?

I've just finished reading "Dracula" (a very good read) and was suprised to find that towards the end it has the line "the beginning of the end" used twice. The chapters where Prof Van Helsing and Dr John Seward et al are giving blood to Lucy Westenra also struck me as being very similar to the scenes in Lost when Jack is giving blood to Boone. In the book, Dr John Seward (at first a staunch sceptic of all finds supernatural) also goes by the name of Jack amongst his friends, Dr Jack Seward, Dr Jack Shephard...

It's honey....The jars in front are darker, because the light is coming from outside, and they are further from the window than the ones in the back.  The things that are clearly visible floating in the forward jars are honeycomb, which further darkens the front jars....And it isn't red, it is a dark molasses color.....I bet it's honey.  Why would honey bee there <-pun intended..?  Who ever occupied that space was obviously a bee keeper...and collected jars of honey...Maybe it was for the polar bears.
