wow awesome find....who knows what this could mean? Lost has to many convenient coincidences that pan out to be more than just that.
But it being in the pilot and making around again in season 4, boy thats a stretch, even for Lost. If it isnt just a coincidence then the writers of Lost are profound geniuses...
Another possibility...maybe its a beacon for the island....maybe it always shows the correct bearing of how to reach the island?

YES IT IS AMAZING...........
AND ITS AN EVIDENCE FOR THOSE WHO THINK THAT LOST IS NOT PLANNED FOR THE FIRST EPISODE....
BUT HOW COULD HAVE GIVE IT TO JACK BEFORE THE CRASH...
BTW JACK DIDNT NOTICED IT AT THE PILOT..........

Thats what he is saying though James. Jack got it before the crash because it was some time travel device which sent him back through time to when the plane crashed

ok....I ll say something that maybe its very wrong an b**lsh**t or you ve already mentiont it but anyway... maybe the first scene of the pilot wasnt the day of the crash..maybe it was the time that jack got back using this stick.... Go on and hang me now...  |

wow, major props to whoever spotted that in the pilot. The only reason I'm still not 100% sold on it is because in some interview or commentary the writers said that they filmed the first 2 episodes like a min-movie, not fully expecting to have an entire T.V. show.
