Bens black baton/stick thing

Hello, I was looking through the topics to find info about Bens 'weapon' and was hoping to get some answers. He beats up Sawyer with it in Season 3 when he's in the cage. We have also seen it in Ep 9 where he takes out those two guys on camels & then in the motel he has it behind his back. In the season finale, he gives it to Locke before surrendering @ the Orchid.
I've heard theories that it is not just a weapon but some sort of time travel device.
In a rather unusual twist, the same device is seen in the opening scene of Pilot (s1). When jack wakes up in the jungle it is lying next to him. Maybe Ben gave it to him. Could this mean that we have already seen the ending of lost; the opening scene of s1. Could it be Jack going back to the island for a 2nd time?

Wow, I never noticed that in the pilot, I'm gonna go check that out tonight. That idea sounds really cool. But I don't think the writers would have been thinking that far ahead when they made the pilot. But then, with Lost, you never know, right?

but we gotta remember, ben was suppose to die early on
So maybe its just major conwinsedence ? (major sp?)
And about the weapon, I agree it has some other qualities
how can soemthing that small beat up those to camel dudes ?
Maybe it has electronic qualities to shock people?

i thought of this last night while trying to go to sleep...
how can he beat the **** outta those two guys on camels if he gives it to john in the season finale?

Just reviewed the scene. He gives it to Locke and says 'hold on to this'
But when they are down in the station and hear Kemy coming he asks for it back. He knocks out Kemy with it then takes his knife and stabs him. So at the time he moves the Island, he is in possesion of it.
