The island needs them all back because the island brought all of them there in the first place.
Why would the Island only need one back or two, the Island caused them all to crash.

Think about everything that has prevented them from getting off of the Island, you could make a pretty large list.
The island never wanted them to get off, and now it wants them back.

Come on MissionControl that is a ridicuous analogy. If they had listened to Locke from the beginning everyone would have been happier...how many people died because Jack refused to listen to him. All of those deaths are on his arrogant head.

hmm. eeyah. you might be onto something about locke being in the undead catagory

eh you know the more and more i read about bringing Locke back to the island, so he can be "ressurrected", i have two different theories to it...

!.  Locke, had to move the island, due to whatever bad things that happened, but before doing so, Jacob tells him to bring all those who made it off back, and everything will be corrected...although im not liking this theory as i feel the whole bring Locke back from the dead thing just doesnt feel right for this show....unless he ends up being like Christian.


2.  Its not Locke, or atleast the real Locke in the coffin.  I wont get into too much about clones, or duplicates...im just gonna go with this has all been staged by Ben...the island was Ben's most cherished possesion, maybe even more than Alex...I think Ben would do anything at any cost to get back....maybe he knows that the O6 need to go back, and this is his way of "tagging along" for the ride.  Ben wants his island back, if he has it, then he knows Widmore cant have it.

But here might be another twist, say it is really Locke, and for whatever reason left the island...then I believe Ben would of been involved with Locke dying...what can you say, jealousy can become a real ***** sometimes.  And we know Ben can kill someone due to over emotions without remorse, you know liking killing Keamy, which in turn blew up a whole freightor.

Yea amazingly I only like this "undead" characteristic for Christian...it just suits everything for him....same will go for Locke....

Speaking of categories...Anyone ever thought of coming up with a listing of the people(prominent characters)  that the island needed to kill...ie: Charlie, Eko, Boone, possibly Claire?, and a list of people that the island has protected Locke, Michael, Jack, Richard,  maybe Sawyer?

i was rewatching The Brig last night as I was going to sleep and I came up with a little theory and I think this is the best thread for it

Ben said that Locke was 'not ready' to discover the secrets of the island and Ben told him that he must let go of the hold his father had over him by killing him.  Correct me if I'm wrong but Ben doesn't know that Locke got Sawyer to kill Cooper does he?  Anyway when Locke goes to find Sawyer and Sawyer attacks him and asks why Locke can't kill him (remember Sawyer thinks he is talking about Ben) Locke says that 'he can't'.  So my theory is that by getting Sawyer to kill Cooper Locke is not letting go of the hold his father had over him and was therefore still not ready to know the island's secrets.  He effectively cheated his way into knowing the secrets and that could be why bad things happened after the O6 leave. 

I love that I still come up with these completely random theories when the season is over lol

I do think that Jacob would know somehow though, but it could be that this is all part of the plan.  They know Locke couldn't let go of the issues with his Dad and was therefore "not ready" - so perhaps they are now challenging Locke, giving him all he wanted (ie the island) then taking it away from him to push him to his limits so he fights to get it back, resulting in him turning into the kind of person that the island needs?
