i was rewatching The Brig last night as I was going to sleep and I came up with a little theory and I think this is the best thread for it

Ben said that Locke was 'not ready' to discover the secrets of the island and Ben told him that he must let go of the hold his father had over him by killing him.  Correct me if I'm wrong but Ben doesn't know that Locke got Sawyer to kill Cooper does he?  Anyway when Locke goes to find Sawyer and Sawyer attacks him and asks why Locke can't kill him (remember Sawyer thinks he is talking about Ben) Locke says that 'he can't'.  So my theory is that by getting Sawyer to kill Cooper Locke is not letting go of the hold his father had over him and was therefore still not ready to know the island's secrets.  He effectively cheated his way into knowing the secrets and that could be why bad things happened after the O6 leave.

I love that I still come up with these completely random theories when the season is over lol

I like that theory....but somehow Richard knew that Locke wouldnt be able to kill his father....thats why Richard gave Locke, Sawyer's file....it was all there that Cooper was the "original" Sawyer, the man that Sawyer was living for to kill.

Yeah Locke in some way cheated, but Richard helped him, maybe with/without Ben's knowledge....And it was more poetic justice for Sawyer to get his revenge, and finish the job that Locke couldnt do

Thats actually pretty good Midge

no need to sound so surprised lol

eeyah i like the idea about the island being taken from him to make him the kind of person the island needs but that goes on assuming that he's not actually dead.  unless by becoming jeremy bentham he was fighting to take back the island and somehow got killed in the process.

and AS i do like that sawyer finally got to confront the man who he had been searching for his whole life.  as for richard he did help locke but im wondering if he was one of the others that wasn't happy with bens leadership and wanted a change but didnt know that by helping locke like that that he could have played a part in causing these things to happen.

like i said i was tired when i thought of it and there are a few holes but hey it keeps us going Smiley

Sawyer: I think they are saying "Baa"

Locke: Where do you get electricity?
Ben: We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel in our secret underground lair.

well i do believe that Richard gave Locke the file behind Ben's back, probably due to Ben not being what Richard or Jacob expected as leader for the Others.  Its sort of like Richard is the guardian of the Others, and that he "talks" with Jacob, but he may not be or ever was the true leader of the Others.

Im sure Ben felt that Locke would not be able to kill his dad, as he was shocked to see Locke carrying in the dead body.  Obviously Richard was just fulfilling his end of getting Locke to be part of the Others, giving him the file of a man that has lived to kill Anthony Cooper.

Actually i love how that whole thing played out, it made me become a fan of Sawyer, as he got to meet, and get revenge with the man that had created who he was.

Well I'm still not convinced he is actually dead.  If he was then why would they need him back on the island like Ben said?  A dead body would serve no purpose (that I can see anyway!).
