Movie Piracy
«

Movie piracy is very easy. Over here in England a group of chinese people go into the cinema with a video camera and a tripod to film a new movie.. mass produce it then sell it to the public. Those of you from London will be very familar with this ( They wil always say that you get a special deal 2 for £5 pound no matter who you are).
Just basically discuss Movie piracy in this thread.

I don't believe in it. I think that it is bad business and wrong for people to make money off of something they had nothing to do with. Well if some of the money were going to the producers and what not than it wouldn't be as bad, but the people that make the movies don't get anything for it. Plus I like to watch stuff that looks good.

Selling it for a profit is criminal. Although, I don't have a big problem with piracy on the internet, or P2P networks. P2P's don't do it for profit, they are just simply sharing something. I understand why it's illegal, but I don't really feel that bad for the people that feel like they are being ripped off, because they do it to everyone when they charge $10.00 for a single person to view their movie in the theater.

For the longest time I refused to watch pirated movies on the internet because I'm a film maker myself, and it's like an unwritten rule for you not to betray your own kind.
It's like musicians, they don't download free music off the internet. Because it would suck if it happened to you.
But then when money started getting tight, and going to the theaters or the local Blockbuster wasn't exactly an option anymore, I was like, "yeahhhh!!!"
Pirates movies rock... and they're
FREE!

what it boils down to is this:
Filmmakers and musicians claim that piracy is theft, but it isn't really.
Theft is removing the rightful property of it's original owner by means that are unsavory. When a person purchases an album or a DVD they become it's rightful owner. At that point, the author, or artist in this case, should have NO SAY in it's use, as long as it's NON PROFIT.
If said person chooses to share it on P2P, thats HIS decision, and the artist shouldn't have any say in it. They got their money from the original sale.
I myself would feel honored that people took an interest in my film or album. As a struggling musician, file sharing is a useful promotional tool. As long as it isn't being sold without my say-so, there isn't a problem.

That's a great attitude to have. I think it demonstrates the difference between some musicians who make music for the simple pleasure and love of it and those who just want fame and money.

exactly its when it starts to be sold for a profit is the problem. and whether its technically theft or not is kind of a moot point since its illegal anyways =/
