oh thanx, didn't see that thread...sorry. i think johnny depp did a great job singing, it gave me goosebumps, but that's probably because i think he's all sexy too, lol. when it got to the throat slashing scenes it was pretty bloody...no wait...it was VERY bloody, i guess it had to earn that R rating. another thing i noticed too is three of the harry potter actors are in that movie as well. forgive me for using there character names here but they were Snape, Bellatrix LeStrange, and Peter Pettigrew. i thought that was funny.

I liked the Harry Potter movies...I've only seen 2 of them though.  I think they're pretty good.

i'm gonna reply to this thread with a thread that i wrote for another board....

This once rising star of a director has effectively, in MY opinion, given his own career the stinkeye. To illustrate my point, let's take a look at his last 5 films, in descending order:

Sweeney Todd - A total piece of junk. Just when I thought I was going to get into this idea, one of the characters would sing. The fact that this is a musical detracts from the film and, in fact, distracts from the plot.

The Corpse Bride - Tim Burton is a master thief of ideas. With the exception of Big Fish, there isn't ONE original idea among these five films. The Corpse Bride isn't any different. Based on on old children's story, this movie takes the route of The Nightmare Before Christmas in that it's stop motion animation. Tim Burton kicked himself in the tuchas when he didn't direct TNBC himself, so he tried to make up for past sins by helming this masterpiece in boring crap film history.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - I think it's probably a safe bet that we ALL enjoy the '70's version of Roald Dahl's classic better. To the point, the film itself is drawn out and boring, and Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka is just creepy. The new version of the Oompa Loompa's are kinda cool, though.

Big Fish - I can't really take much of an issue with this film, and I enjoy it. This film is the big screen equivalent of what it's name implies: a big fish story. The execution and delivery of this premise is pretty spot on. The only drawback is it's total departure from Tim Burton's usual "tread the darkness" fare with which most of his erstwhile fans have become accustomed.

Planet of the Apes - Oh, man. Where do I begin with this total box of garbage? This can't be called a remake in the true sense of the word, because remakes usually follow the general ebb and flow of the original, to some degree. This "reboot" takes the concept of the original films and makes a glorious mockery of them. The make-up and effects department did a pretty good job, but without an interesting story or plot, a film is little more than a polished turd. No matter HOW much you polish a turd, it's still just that: a turd.
