Many people argue about this topic all the time: Who has had the worst thing happen to them.

Lots of people have talked about their personal injuries on many occasions in the longest thread. i think this deserves its own topic.

I broke my neck when i was 12. I broke my C2 vertebrae (sp?).  If i had broken it a quarter of an inch lower, i wouldve been paralyzed from the neck down.  To fix it i had to wear a halo brace for 3 or 4 months.  Part of the installation of the halo brace required 6 two-inch screws to be drilled into my head.  2 in my forehead and 2 above each ear.

So beat that you guys.

well i dont think i can beat that but figured id throw my stick in the fire.

when i was sevenish i got pulled off the couch and slammed my chin into the coffee table and split it open.  had to get a bunch of stitches.

also when i was 11/12 i got what we thought was the flu.  so i was sick in bed a week throwing up, not eating, and i was in mortal pain from my stomach.  so eventually my mom took me to the hospital and they realized that i had appendacitis(sp?).
also it had actually exploded inside of me like 2 or 3 days ago.

and if i hadnt gone to the hospital that day i might have died it was infected so badly.  so i had to get a tube inserted into my stomach to drain all the pus out of my stomach(gross huh?).  and THEN i had to have another surgery to get my actual appendix out.  so i have four scars on my stomach from them all.  i ended up losing like 15 pounds(when you only weigh like 100 thats pretty bad)

doesnt beat yours ben but it was still pretty bad.  i bet you have some nice scars.  howd you break your neck anyways??

oh. the appendix story sounds really bad. I know its bad when its about to explode, but most people get it out before or right after it happens. i cant imagine what you went through!

yeah, people die from the appendix if it explodes all the time, you got really lucky.

I can't say certain injuries were worse as far as injuries go, but i have some serious health things go on that could have killed me.  I have had 2 miscarriages that I was 4 months along in that I hemorrhaged, lost a lot of blood (long story) the only thing that saved me was getting to the hospital. The first one I got there they said if I didn't get there when i did, I would have died from blood loss. The only thing that stopped the bleeding was the Dr. had to go in with forceps and had to remove the fetus. I hate that word. I am going to say baby. Anyway, yeah that was really scary and bad.

My mom had that once too, the almost bleeding to dead thing.. I think she was like 6 months along, and she didn't want the doctors to take the baby away. They told her she could've died though, and if she didn't let the baby removed she had to be in the hospital 'till the baby was born. And she did, now that baby is my youngest brother, and I still have the same mom.
I don't know if I should ever do something like that, keeping the baby if it could kill me. I don't even understand why the doctors let her keep it, she must've been really hysterical about it.

I never had really bad injuries. Hmmm.. Let me think. I sprained a lot of things, my arms and legs couple of times, and my feet... Never broken anything too. 2 or 3 years ago, I dropped something heavy on my toe. I really thought it was broken. The next day we went to take a picture of it, the guy said it was only a crack! And it looked like it was the 3rd one so far I ever had in that toe. Ok than! Never noticed, lol.

Oh this one time in camp was 'bad'. I was 11 then, and it was time for bed. Earlier that day I couldn't join in a game because I was experiencing some pain in my stomach and chest. They gave my some painkillers and everything was ok.
So that evening, me and 3 of my friends were brushing our teeth. All of a sudden I felt the pain rising again, it was rising rapidly. For a moment I couldn't even breath because of it. Then the pain got so bad I fell on the ground. After that I only remember flashes of a woman picking me up and someone putting a chair outside for me. Next thing I know, a guy from camp is coming to me, asking if everything is ok with me. I still had pain, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it was before. Then the guy said "Ok, you've been sitting outside for 30 minutes like the doctor said, now you can go sleeping." I was like, what doctor? Apparently the doctor came 15 minutes after I fell, and stayed for a while and then said I had to sit outside for 30 minutes to be sure.
I lost my memory for like an hour or so. And when my friends talked about it, they said it was really scary because I was kicking and screaming how much it hurted. I don't remember any of that! That was so strange.
I think this is what happened (according to my psychology books Wink ): when a person experiences something very traumatic, the brain 'deletes' of 'hides' the memory of it, to protect the person. That's the same reason why a lot of people have memory lost after a car accident.

That was it, it's not really that bad, I can't remember anything from it, but I think it's pretty heavy for an 11 year old  .
I can never compete with you guys though!

ben, lol. a question about injuries and such really doesn't have too much potential to be happy. =/

It wasn't really an injury, but this past summer I had the weirdest headache ever, and in the ER they thought it could have been an aneurysm, so they did a cat scan and didn't see anything but wanted to do an LP/spinal tap. Just thinking about getting one scared me, but I said ok. They tried twice.. for about a half  hour all together, and apparently my vertebrae are too close to get the needle into my spinal cord.. that was the most miserable experience of my life. asian distress >.< After that i had an mri done, and that came back fine just like the cat scan.
Turned out I just had a really bad sinus infection and that's what the headache was from.. before that I had never had a sinus headache, so I had no clue.. unfortunately.

Debby, if they hadn't of removed the baby, I would have bled to death. There was no saving it. It was already dead. So sad. Sad

One of my best friends from a few years ago got meningitis. I told him he needed to go to the hospital, so I took him and they had to do the spinal tap to make sure thats what it was. Sure enough thats what he had. It was bad for him though, cause it was a learning hospital and he had an intern do the first spinal tap and they didn't get it in the right spot and it started squirting blood all over the place on the back side of the needle and they had to do it again. So he actually had 2 spinal taps in one night.

I don't even like the idea of a spinal tap...

yikes, that must have been terrible.
I don't think there was too much bleeding with mine, but of course I couldn't really see it. And my mom left the room shortly after it started because she couldn't handle watching it.
