Hi all jus wana cast ur memorys bk abit.......does any1 member when Rose was taklin about the Black Smoke & how   "the sound was very familiar & i'm from the Bronx"   jus been lookin around and my conclusions were............

In the bronx there is UNDERGROUND travel & it sounds very loud n similar  noises 2 rollercoasters etc

If the noise tht Rose says does sound familiar when the Black Smoke appears is somehow UNDERGROUND travel then this could explain alot!

How the others travel without leaving any tracks!!!
How they COULD go from island 2 island!!!!

Ex:

When Michael goes 2 what he thinks is the others village 2 look 4 Walt and see's 100's of hillbillys with Raggy costumes & fishing for food, then when Sayid appears there their is No1 at all & no sign of anything left!!!!!

There r alot of other things happened on the Island that could also suggest that there could be UNDERGROUND travel (have a little think)

I am  not ruling underground tunnels out. I believe there could be underground tunnels, but does that necessarily mean that it is tied to the smoke monster? I honestly don't know what to think. I think that it sounds like a whale. I cant remember where I found it at, but I listened to clips of the sound of a whale back to back with the clip of the noise that comes from the smoke monster and they are identical. I will see if I can find that again and if I do I will put it in here.

I have been looking and looking and looking and I cant find it anywhere. I have decided to try and put something together myself so I am still looking for something to put together. I thought that I would let you know my progress on that. Not doing so hot on that at the moment. I will keep you posted and I will continue to search.

I heard that too.  The whale sounds back to back with the smoke monster....I can't seem to find it either.  Let us know what you come up with Crystal...

Hi!  N00b to this board, and I can see this topic is kind of dying down, BUT, the producers went over the foley (sound) work for the show, and in real life the smoke monster is a recording of New York City cabs printing their receipts.  I don't know if that bears on Rose's memory, but that's what they are.

not sure how much this has been discussed before but, when rose says "it sounded familiar", maybe because she heard it on the plane, ie. the black smoke crashed the plane?

Yeah, I heard that on the podcast too....I think that the smoke monster sound is probably a collection of sound clips....Like the tornado on Twister was a mixture of pigs squealing and several other sounds....The particular sound that we are talking about is one that happened early on in the series that was a sort of loud dinosaur sounding roar....The taxi cab clicks occurred when the smoke monster came face to face with Juliet....

the sound when smokey is dragging lock through the forest sounds exactly like a roller coaster when it is going up to the top of the peak...

Thats what drew me watch lost, I saw the previews like 9 months before the show came out, and they kept showing the previews of the noised and the trees moving and Charlie saying "guys, where are we?" Yup, it was the smoke monster. I was like WTF.
