 Little Devil

I always thought the island was purgatory...but the writers...are really messing with the fans...

It was making sense....

It's purgatory....

the people on the island are already dead....and are repenting on the island...
no women can give birth on the island unless the baby was not conceived on the island..
if the baby was conceived in real time...the baby would also be considered dead...thus eplaining Claire's baby..
Ben just wants to control everyone...and is a mad man...

But then...there are so many questions...unanswered and don't make sense...

Who's making the drops on the island...
why do all the men have problems with their fathers...is there a link to Ben...
How the heck can John Locke...walk...is he living in the past or the future...are we really watching flashbacks..

Hello,

Its NOT purgatory..

They had a special on last week and the producers of the show clearly said that it was not purgatory and not the direction on which the show was going.

I guess it more of a sci fi maybe space time continum thoery.

No matter how many times we say that its not purgatory, people either don't care or just don't listen, they all still think its purgatory. I mean who knows, maybe the producers are lying. I doubt it, I don't think thats the case.

I think that purgatory is the theory that makes the most sense to people....Even though it's all over the internet that the producers have shot down the purgatory theory, some people don't know that.  Some people have never even heard this theory, and I think that's why we continue to see topics and posts about this.  That's the reason I created a forum called "Purgatory", so that as these Lost internet virgins find their way to our site to share their opinion, we don't just shoot them down, but hopefully help them to understand why we as Lost experts know that it isn't a feasible theory anymore.

JJ's right though. If u think about it. We remember the smallest details. We know the backstories, we analyse, deconstruct and analyse over and over again until we think we have sound knowledge, and when something new pops up we start the same process all over again. That sounds like expertise to me....  Patch

I don't think the Purgatory is right, because it's almost too easy -- not as easy as the "it was just a dream" or "it all took place in Hurley's schizo mind" -- but still too easy

However, I have to give props to cute_shaytaan for making a good stab at it -- and I think her idea (about why women with a pre-island D.O.C. can conceive and women with a post-island D.O.C. cannot) is actually quite logical and perceptive

But then if it was purgatory surely the babies would be dead if they were conceived on the island or not. Cos if they were pregnant and then died and ended in purgatory then their baby would have died with them in the plane crash. I like the idea, but too many holes included in the baby idea. If anything, the island is just an island that has good minerals and a helluva lot of hallucinagenic properties. The magnetism keeps the island from being visible through reflections like an illusion, and the plane and other flying vehicles can not work in the electro magnetised environment. If it were to be a bubble then the air might have properties of it's own that could be similar to LSD or acid or other hallucinagenic drugs. That would not be able to escape the bubble and make everyone hallucinate. Or just people with certain genetic make-up! The giant statue could be what the others were building of Jacob as a messiah who might not exist anyway if he is just a hallucination or illusion. Then the others did get Sawyer and Kate to break rocks. Could that be remnants of the statue? Cos i don't remember seeing any debris around the statue foot when we saw it! The rock itself looks clean and not worn so it is definitely recent not hundreds or thousands of years old as i first believed. The different culture on the island and different references to other religions could be from other races who have been stranded there and left their imprint on the island. The ability to cure could be the magnetism pulling the badness out of them, it is possible. Magnets do have healing properties. Richards age... Now thats a tricky one, i think the writers might have just given him long hair when Ben was young to show his age difference, they obviously couldn't make him look younger. Though that doesn't explain much, because surely he is younger than Ben, so he would have been a child. All i can think is that he has an ability to bend time, a much more developed skill than Desmonds. Thats all I can think of different to my other theories at this time.

The Island has had a lot of fan theories, yet none completely make sense without ignoring something else, as stated above, babies...why would they be in purgatory? lol
personally in my opinion Dharmas gonna make some big butt come back and take that island back
with regards to the current topic though, purgatory is in general terms just normal life, ups and downs all the time, always wondering why no one can ever be truely happy, every time you feel truely happy something pi**es you off.

wouldnt it suck if the writers were misleading us and all these seasons we have been saying, "the writers said it wasnt purgatory so its not".  Then we find out it is purgatory and the writers say, "April fools!!"

I wouldn't be amused if it was. What if in a sense it is purgatory, but only those who die on the island escape to heaven or hell, like they're being judged, and the good ones escape back to the real world. Like they would all wake up in a hospital and they would have Ecko, Boone etc all dead. It would be weird but i wouldn't totally be against an ending like that.
