We will we see the smoke monster again. The rule with the smoke monster is that every time it is shown, its mythology is evolved a little further, so you learn something about it that you didn't know before.

Set report

    * This episode features a dusty, rubble-strewn Middle Eastern town. Military trucks and wrecked cars stood guard in front of roadside stands selling pottery and used luggage. One of the apartments on the third floor of the building in the back looks blackened and burned out. A large archway seemed to serve as the centerpiece of the scene, it had scrapes on the side of it as if a car had ploughed through it and scraped the sides. Posters of Saddam Hussein on the walls were painted over with graffiti. Taxis said Tikrit Taksi. Sayid and Ben made appearances.

There was some filming action going on at The Barracks. Sawyer, Locke and Hurley were on set. They were filming a scene with Sawyer talking to a group of kids. They were also filming a scene where one of the barrack houses was on fire, and a lot of men dressed in military uniforms and warpaint with guns stormed the barracks.

    *  the Barracks are under attack
    * Locke: "These people who are coming, you are scared of them, aren't you?"
    * Ben: "I am."
    * Hurley is in one of the houses, holding a crying Aaron and asks someone else (offscreen) "Is that Claire's house?"
    * Sawyer: "Why slaughter people without even telling us what they want?"
    * In the background it sounds like Alex is screaming, "Oh my god!"
    * Ben: "Welcome to the war, John."
    * Smoke monster roaring in the background
    * Hurley: "We are all going to die."
    * Smoke Monster appears earlier in a scene with Jack and Kate

Set Report

    * A raging gunfight will decimate Camp Locke
    * Episode 9 is a flash-forward adventure for globe-trotting Ben, in which his war with British billionaire Charles Widmore over control of the Island will intensify
    * Episode 9 also revisits a long-simmering subplot: Sayid's romance with Iraqi love Nadia.
    * Scenes were shot in a rock quarry, involving horses, machine gun fire and Ben dressed in a woolly winter parka.
    * Michael Emerson commented that recent shootings involved Ben in combat, riding horses, speaking foreign languages and playing piano.
    * During EW's stay on the set, Garcia prepared for an encounter with Smokey, and Holloway was spritzed with fake sweat and a touch of blood in advance of a raging gunfight.

    *  Claire's house blows up. Sawyer who was running towards it flies through the air.

    * Ben: You wanna live? I'm your best chance

The body that is washed ashore is that of Doc Ray.
