Yes, they are missing pieces. They are recently written to fit somewhere in the story for us to piece together and figure out where they belong.

this mobisode was actually a deleted scene from season three that was cut in post-production (according to the audio commentary in "a tale of two cities"). i believe you guys are right about the xrays...the envelope matches the one seen in "One of Us".
