Did Ben turning the donkey wheel affect the past?

I've read posts about Lost for years and I'm finally posting my first one. Here goes-In the new video shown at comic con Pierre Chang said "Time isn't of the essence, it is the essence." It got me thinking what if they aren't moving the island but are really moving time. Faraday is going to end up 30 years back after Ben did his thing . That's why Faraday needed Desmond as his constant. He wrote it in his notebook. Going back to Season 2-there were a few of system failures written on the hatch door when Lock was pinned. What if when Desmond turned the key, when he typed the numbers in late and the plane crashed, when Ben turns the wheel-it affects peeps in the past on the island. These things caused incidents. Bens being the big one that causes Candle loses his arm. Faraday tells Pierre(Marvin Candle) about his arm too. He looks at it knowingly and with worry in the new video. We dont have a normal time line here. I'm just skimming the top because iI have a few theories and don't want to be too long winded. Here's what I think.
1.Everyone that shifts with time needs a constant or they get sick. The constant can't be on the island and you just have to think of them or it(it can be a subconscious one too-not being aware you need a constant if you have a strong one ie,Sawyer-Kate;juliet-Jack;Jin-Sun). If Danielle's shipmates got sick and she didn't,did she have a constant? and is it someone we know?
2.Miles was the baby in the new video and "Marvin Candle" is his pops. Miles was born on the island. That leads to no. 3
3.Anyone who has been on the island either wants or needs to come back. Faraday has even been there. I don't believe he was born before the time he visits and that is why he can't explain his crying at the newscast. Jack has to get back. Heck Micheal even came back. Everyone who chose to be on that island has been there before(including bad-butt Keamy)which leads to no.4
4.If Keamy is a bad dude, and he is dead, and souls seem to have trouble leaving the island. That can't lead to anything good.
5.Olivia Goodspeed is an Other. As in old like Richard A. I think she was in Dharma spying for the Others. Let's say this if my husband was cheating on me I would be furious, unless I was an old soul that had patience. She also popped out of no where in the jungle. I jumped at that scene.
6.The catostrophic malfunction of Cerebus is the black smoke. Either Dharma created it and the island somehow gave it a conscience and part of it split off. Or Dharma tapped into something already on the island using it as a security system and it back fired. they maintained some control over a part of it. The smoke that killed Eko isn't the same one he and Lock saw the first time.
Remember these are just the theories of a crazy woman early in the morning. I'd appreciate any feed back and apologizes for my spelling. When I'm more awake I'll post those. and thank you for reading.

Wow lots of cool theories!
I like your idea that they are moving time instead of the island but we see the island disappear so that would mean that it does actually move, right? But maybe it moves to another place and time.

Miles was the baby in the new video and "Marvin Candle" is his pops. Miles was born on the island.
That will please Deadarm, she's been trying to convince us of that for ages!
As for the smoke monster, who knows! There are a lot of interesting theories about it. For instance, like you said Nanne, that there are more than one. It appears in different shapes throughout the show so maybe there are a number of smokies (maybe a mamma smokie, daddy smokie and baby smokie!)
The writers have mentioned that Olivia is going to be featured again - my theory is she could be related to Charlotte in some way, perhaps? I definitely agree - there is something sneaky going on with her which we are yet to learn about.

I really like your first point, about everyone needing a constant after ben turned the wheel. This could be what Ben was talking about when he said "something horrible happened after you left".

oooh good stuff nan, interesting theories.....your almost saying that the island is like a central point for time...so it technically doesnt move in time, but everything around it does......and the island disappearing, technically does not disprove this theory....we see the island disappear from the O6's perspective....but we never saw it from the islands....i still believe that the island dissappears because it is removed from that moment in time...and possibly location, depending on where in time the island will resurface.
Good theories, gave you a buck
And if the island moving causes everyone to get sick, that certainly clears up why Daniel wrote that message in his book...

nice theories, i just checked out the comic con vid- cool stuff. Yeh I think the miles-candle thing is very plausible. Actually, when Locke and Ben went down on the lift at the end of S4 I was sort of hoping Marvin Candle would be down there lol

I've really been thinking about the time thing. When Desmond sees Faraday and they do the whole rat experiment, the rat does memorize it but they don't witness that. It's sleeping. That means something, its just 4am in the morning and I can't think.(I work late!) So technically the island's sleeping but since its not "alive" so to speak on a mammalist level would it just dissappear instead? Thanks for being nice and welcoming also. I lucked out on my first Lost forum choice! You guys are right on when it comes to the greatest show that was ever written!

I f Faraday went back and told of Dharmas demise, wouldn't Dharma take action and remove or put on certain people on flight 815 since it's 30 years before and they know it's going to happen. The islands "course Correcting" action was to make sure Faraday, Miles, Charlotte, and the original pilot(lawnmower man) were on the island cuz Dharma manipulated the future. does this make any sense to anyone or am i over thinking things?

hmmm you could be over thinking things, but i do get what your saying.....this falls into the whole time loop theory.....technically although Desmond told Faraday about the island back in the past, he didnt mention much about it. And we still havent had clarification as to why Daniel was crying in the season opener....but what if, due to all the previous radiation, when the island was moved, Faraday's mind traveled like Desmonds.....which also makes me think it was the fact the copter atcually traveled in time that caused desmonds mind to shift in "The Constant".
So it is wuite possible the samething happens to Faraday, but does he physically time travel back 30 years or just his mind? It cant be just his mind cause he would probably be only a little boy 30 years ago. Ugh im confused ha ha
