That reminds me of Back to the Future!

That's right, the woman in Desmond's flashback/forward said that the universe has a way of course-correcting so that you cannot change the future. The doctor would meet his fate eventually one way or another.

Just got home. great replys everyone. When reading through your posts and the paradox was mentioned I was going to mention that the writers have choosen to answer that question by course correcting fates, kinda like that movie final destination. nice job for pointing that out.

great catch in regaurds to being able to see the boat from the island but not the other way around. I will have to rewatch to see if that is indeed accurate.

I also need to rewatch the doctor episodes because I was under the impression that they backed up the story to the moment that the doctor was killed but at no time was he alive and dead together.

I never noticed that about the boat either. There's a lot of stuff I missed out on because I've only seen the episodes from season 4 when they aired and haven't rewatched them. I've watched the other seasons so many times but I'm waiting for the boxset to rewatch season 4. That's why I was so lost with the time travel theories!

Well i do remember one scene i think the first hour in the last episode, that when they moved the freightor closer, you could see it from the beach in the background....but i dont remember seeing an angle from the freightor of being able to see the island........which is why i thought maybe the island(as a land mass) doesnt exist in "real time"

Its hard to determine that due to the camera angles the show portrays....like when the island was being engulfed with the energy, maybe thats when it was starting to revert back into the "real time" only to move/disappear again....

Yea, i dont think they ever showed the doctor alive and dead at any points together, i think its just something the writers did to make us figure out that the doctor went into the past...time travel is such a pain in the *** lol.

Luv the back to the future reference, that was my favorite movie as a child lol....and truly that helps make situations like this more understandable....another good movie that follows the concept of you cant change the past is the Time Machine, well atleast in the beginning of it anyway lol....

Im loving everyones bright ideas and theories in here, and i need to do some rewatching myself, maybe i can squeeze some in over the weekend

I remember in the episode when the doctor dies and one of the crew members said "hey doc they say that your body turned up with a slit throat at shore" and then the doctor said "why would they say that?" or something like. If I can recall he didn't seem that surprised though, I also need to re-watch it this time difference stuff is so confusing

Actually now that you wrote that, i do remember the doctor saying that....i wouldnt say the doctor was nt shocked, more or less just something you dont hear everyday......but wasnt it right after the call that all that stuff with keamy happened?  Even if the doctor heard it, he didnt have time to react to it at all....

The doctor thing was more of an example, like someone mentioned Locke being alive on the island but dead off of it which made me question the escaping of death more. but ya I forgot all about the Desmond episode about fate.
I dont know if it was right after the call that the doctor dies because they find the doctor on the shore in the daytime, and we see Keamy actually kill the doctor when its nighttime. would it make sense if it was night on the boat but day on the island?

That is a very good question: If time was moving at two different speeds I would guess yes it could be day on the island while its night in the rest of the world. As has been stated many times, these are the problems that arise from introducing a concept like time travel into the show. Personally I feel a little betrayed by the writers on this show. They are quoted in earlier seasons as saying that everything that happens on this show can be explained by science. IMO, introducing Time travel is really pushing it. I hope thy got some pretty good aces up thier sleeves for next season. They need to start making this story a little more plausable.

Im just going back to what i thought in another thread....it just wouldnt feel right if they go with the idea of just taking Locke in the coffin back to the island and he resurrects somehow....i like it for Christian, as its his character, and technically we didnt see  him alive to start the show.....but with Locke, i just dont like the whole raising him from the dead approach....

Id rather believe that the Locke in the coffin is a way in the future Locke, that came back to change something that happened on the island.....I dont know i just have this weird feeling, maybe even in the opening of S5, that you will see an alive Locke and the dead Locke in the coffin.....of course flashbacks/flashforwards can really screw up when the time is though

Yea i heard that too, but I also read that they will be throwing the flashbacks/flashforwards in such a way that we wont be able to tell which is the true timeframe......

My theory, just a theory so far, if its really Locke in the coffin, then the island went back in time, maybe even to when Dharma first finds...could be what bad things that happened and Locke was forced to move the island back into present time...would be a good reason for Daniel to be there, as he might be able to calculate how to get it back...so that could be how Locke got off the island....
