We all know that the island has "healing powers" as we've seen a crippled man gain back the use of his legs, a woman with cancer supposedly healed, and general injuries heal faster than normal according to many quotes.  If these healing powers are taken a little further, the result could possibly be bringing dead people back to life.  I think there may have been hints at this.

First of all, in Season 1, Jack found his father's coffin on the island, but it was empty.  We've seen Christian several times through several eyes (Jack, Claire, and John for sure).

The most significant evidence for resurrection on the island in my opinion is Episode 3-5, "The Cost of Living."  In this episode, Mr. Eko and John Locke (along with some other losties) are at the Pearl/drug smuggler's plane.  Yemi's (Mr. Eko's brother) body  is supposed to be in the plane, so John and Eko roll away a large stone from in front of the plane entrance.  When Eko enters the plane, he finds that Yemi's body is missing.  This seems to be reference to the empty tomb of Jesus.

When Mr. Eko talks to Yemi (just before the black smoke kills Eko), Yemi says something like, "You speak to me as though I were your brother" to which Eko responded, "WHO ARE YOU?!"  I think that perhaps Yemi's body was raised from the dead or controlled by Jacob maybe.  Remember also that in "Cabin Fever," Christian said that he could speak on behalf of Jacob.

So, are Christian and Yemi really (still?) dead?

thats a good theory 3GOD.  when yemi first said that to eko i just took it to mean that eko had done so much evil that his brother had disowned him.  but now we're seeing all these 'dead' people up and about im starting to wonder if it is more than that

Locke: And the rest of the group.. What are they saying?
Sawyer: I think they are saying "Baa"

Locke: Where do you get electricity?
Ben: We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel in our secret underground lair.

Ah, I forgot about that!

It's an interesting theory.

Maybe the black smoke has mystical properties, as well as electrical ones.
Perhaps it's meant to reflect the thoughts, feelings, and fears of anyone it encounters.

Also, maybe that is why when John first appeared before Jacob, Jacob wasn't visible.
Maybe Jacob needs a physical body in which to manifest himself, but wouldn't he be all decrepit and zombified utilizing Yemi?

the producers have said that if you are dead, you are always dead.  i believe that it the smoke monster manifesting itself as those people. the producers have also said that, that the smoke monster does that.
