I was driving home from work one day, and there was a man sitting in a wheel chair on the side of the road holding a sign, you know the type, "spare some change".  There was an ambulance and several police cars lined up, blocking the turn lane.  We pulled up right beside where the man was sitting and could see that he wasn't conscious, his arms lay limp over the arms of his wheelchair, and his chin rested firmly on his chest.  I thought he was dead, he sure looked it.  Anyway, while sitting there, I was watching the paramedics and the way they handled this poor man, and it was quite a shocking site.  One of the police officers had his night stick and was poking and prodding at the man.  "Hey, wake up".  One of the paramedics shoved at the guy, treated him as if he were a diseased piece of meat.  Instead of placing the heat stricken man on a stretcher, and hauling him off to the hospital, they poked and prodded him, an undignified act.  My whole point in this is that it seems that every day the citezens of the US are being treated more and more like pawns or peasants, and less like dignified free willed human beings, and I am sick of it.  It's a shame that people don't speak up for such acts.  It should have been on the news, the officers and the paramedics should have been fired and jailed, new laws should have been put in place to protect the people in our country from what is slowly becoming a police state.  The unfortunate truth is I was scared, scared of the people that I pay to protect me and heal me, scared to stand up for what I thought was right, for what is right.  The light turned green, and sadly, I drove home.  Angry and grief stricken, but unspoken.

No, I didn't see the outcome.  The light turned green and we drove off.  It was probably 105 that day(that's Fahrenheit), and extremely humid.

In England if your found unconcius on the street by a poilice officer he will prod you with his baton to wake you up then tell you to move on. Sometimes you get taken away for it.

I can understand that if you are sleeping somewhere that you shouldn't be sleeping, but if you are in need of medical attention, then you should get that medical attention in a respectful way.

You know what annoys me? The fact that almost every damn cop abuses his power, and thinks he's better than you...

I have one terrible example, being the following:

Where I live we have this "road", it's full of shops and stores, clothing and stuff, you know. It's intended for pedestrians only, but occasionally people will ride their bikes there as well. Nobody in the whole damn street has a problem with the bikes, but then what happens?

I was driving my bike in that street, and all of the sudden, a police van drives after me, AND TELLS ME I CAN'T DRIVE MY BIKE HERE!!!!!!!! I was shocked, seriously... There were almost no people in the street, and I'm certain that the few people who were walking there didn't mind me at all, but I get sent away, and the police van can disturb everyone with the smell of the exhaust fumes it produces. I never have been more insulted in my life. Not because I had to get off of my bike and walk it, but because a damn cop driving a car told me to, if it were a cop on foot, I wouldn't mind getting off of my bike, I wouldn't find it a bit absurd, but ok.

Another example; A few days ago there was something on the news about a party for alternative music lovers, what happened? Cops stopped the party, people had paid 20€ for tickets (thats about 30$), and the police descided the party had to be stopped, so they just shut it down. Reason given: The building was not firesafe, yet the day before, there had been a regular party, and there were no problems with firesafety what so ever. Apparantly the REAL reason was: People who listen to alternative music are thought of to use more drugs, so they descided to break up the party.

What I'm trying to say is: Crime is EVERYWHERE, but over here, instead of looking for real criminals, it's almost as if cops bully on citizens, taking away everything they like to do (they bust a home poker game on a daily basis in Belgium, that's what cops do...).

Cops should get privilidges, driving through red lights and stuff should be the only ones, not acting like they are better than you.

That's the mentality of the authorities though.  I don't think that they are bad people, but they become bad in certain situations, especially ones where they are given the power to judge and deliberate the outcome of almost any situation.

Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking Solid?
